Ashes, ashes, we all fall down!!!

Lent is upon us, and I have had the hardest time deciding what I should give up. If you don't know what Lent is, I will offer a little overview. Lent is a 40 day period of fasting and prayer that occurs before Easter and always begins on Ash Wednesday. It represents the period of time that Jesus spent in the desert and was tempted by Satan. I know a lot of people do this differently, but I was taught that during this time, you give up a vice that "gets in the way of your relationship with the Lord." In addition, you can add something that will bring you closer to the Lord during this time.... In the end, you hope to have made more time for God and put worldy things second! I don't think all Christian denominations practice this, but I have always been taught to do this through the Methodist denomination. Clayton has also always practiced this because he grew up Catholic... He is giving up video games (thank goodness!!)

Anyways, I can, usually, easily decide on what I need to give up. Every year since I was in 5th or 6th grade (I don't think I really did Lent much before this), I have always given up caffeine and chocolate. I can't really do this, this year! A few months ago, I gave up caffeine and most desserts in an effort to be healthy and get back my BEACH BOD! I really think it would be unfair to count this as my Lent, haha. So..... I have decided that I am going to give up blogging for Lent! This is truly going to be the hardest thing for me to do because I have become so addicted to it. I have hemmed and hawwed over giving up blogging, but decided that I 100% needed to give it up because it was such a hard decision. If it is that hard for me to give up blogging for 40 days, then that is definitely a BIG VICE!!

So, this will be my last post until Easter, and the last day I will get to read all of your blogs! Please make some great posts!!!!!

The King meets The King

Today, I had the day off from school so I decided to attend my grandfather's Valentine's day party at the assisted living facility where he lives. I have been to almost all of his parties on the holidays, and always have a great time with him and his friends. Today was EXTRA special because he was officially crowned as the facility's King! He will hold his "title" for a year, after which he will pass his crown down to the next lucky man! He doesn't look too happy in the pictures because he wasn't feeling well, but I know it meant a lot to him. If you look closely, you will see the surprise visitor that sang to the crowd!

This is of granddad being crowned!

The Presentation of my Life!

I know that I have been talking a lot about this "presentation" for school, so I thought it warranted a post of its own. In my graduate school program for occupational therapy, part of the requirements to graduate (other than class and fieldwork rotations) is to designed and implement some type of OT program, write the project up in a paper format (the 40 page paper I wrote before Christmas), and then present the project to the entire OT department, family, and other interested individuals.

My presentation occurred on the first day (all Thursdays are set aside this semester to allow for my class to present) and I was the second presenter. My project that I created was "Independence with Arthrogryposis" and involved me doing therapy and creating assistive equipment for an individual with a diagnosis of arthrogryposis. This may be boring to read, but it was my life for over a year and a half!! I'm so glad I'm done with it and am anxiously awaiting my grade for the overall project. Here are some pictures of the day! The picture of three people were the three presenters of the day. The picture of the girl in red with me at the podium is of one of my best friends (who happened to be my moderator for my presentation), Niki Williams. This girl has gotten me through some of the roughest times and will be one of my best friends for life (she is also one of the only people who truly understand what it means to be a military wife. Her husband is active duty Army!)

Weekend Recap in Atlanta

I know I am WAYYY behind in some of my posts, so I am playing catch up today! I can't believe I haven't posted about our wonderful weekend in Atlanta!! We had such a great time together just shopping, eating, and seeing great attractions. But most of all, we spent a much needed weekend rekindling our love and bringing some of that spark back to the relationship. For us at least, it is so easy to put our relationship on the backburner when life throws us obstacles. Instead of putting each other first, as we are supposed to, we seem to allow other things to take priority. I think this weekend was a gentle reminder how important it is to put our marriage as number one and ALWAYS work at it. The minute you stop working at your marriage, that will be the minute it slowly starts to not work anymore.

So a brief overview of our weekend: We arrived in Atlanta on Saturday late morning after eating a quick lunch at Quiznos. Another customer gave us a coupon while we were in line that was buy one meal, get the second meal for free. Both Clayton and I looked at each other after this happened and agreed that this only happens "in the south."

After lunch, we made our way over to Atlantic Station, where the Bodies exhibit was being held. I wasn't able to take pictures because no photography was allowed. However, IT WAS AMAZING!! Even with as much anatomy as I have had to take over the past three years, I still learned a thing or two! Plus, the exhibits were just so facinating. I really think everyone should attend this exhibit so you can truly understand how your body works in times of health and disease. If you are interested in the Bodies exhibit, take a look http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/

That night, we went to a GREAT dinner at Buckhead Diner, which has the atmosphere of an upscale 50's diner (although you really would never think you were in a diner!) We had a huge dinner and finished off with an incredible dessert, which you will find in the pictures. We definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for somewhere nice and swanky!

On Sunday, we spent the day shopping for an outfit for me to wear to my presentation the following week (another post to come!!) as well just shopped just because! Later that night, we got to go to the Cirque du Soleil show, Kooza, which was FANTASTIC!!! I have seen another Cirque show before and I really think that this one was much better! Once again, I was not allowed to take pictures (I actually got in trouble trying to take a picture inside of the tent.) But if you are interested, check out the website!

Overall, it was a short, but very great weekend!!

Let's focus on someone else for a change!

In honor of the upcoming, Hallmark holiday when we are all supposed to be the most in love, I decided to dedicate a post to my incredible husband. If you have been on facebook in the past month, the 25 random facts about yourself have taken over! Instead of doing 25 facts on myself, I decided to do 25 random facts on my husband.
